Airtel Kenya Introduce embedded subscriber identity module (e-Sim)

Sim cards have been evolving every decades, network providers introducing smaller than before sim cards ever since the first launch of standard Sim Cards

Four types of Sim Cards available in Kenya
• Standard Sim card (Small)
• Micro Sim card (Smaller)
• Nano Sim card (Smallest)
• e-Sim (Virtual)

Airtel Kenya have recently introduced e-Sim joining Safaricom and Jamii Telecom, the digital Sim will eliminate the need of physical Sim card.

The technology will make compatible phones allows as many as 5 virtual e-Sim cards be stored on 1 e-Sim

How To Get e-Sim
First you will need to check if your phone or device is compatible by dialing *#06# or by visiting either Jamii Telecom Limited (Faiba) website, Safaricom website or Airtel website

Airtel says 20 iPhones models, 18 Samsung models, selective Google Pixel, Motorola and Nokia model is compatible with their e-Sim technology

Safaricom e-Sim technology is compatible in 6 iPhone devices; iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 and iPhone SE 2020, also is supported in 3 Samsung models Samsung- S21, Z Fold and Note 20

How Much is the e-Sim in Kenya

Customers with Faiba 4G will pay Ksh150 to get e-Sim while first registering Faiba 4G clients will pay Ksh300. Safaricom registered clients will part with Ksh150 to get e-Sim while new subscribers will pay Ksh250

For ordinary Standard, Micro and Nano Safaricom Sim Card will remain Ksh50 for New and Replacement Card

Airtel says, existing customers seeking to switch to e-Sim and new registering customers will only pay Ksh100. Standard, Micro and Nano Airtel Sim Cards will remain FREE
