Thailand Introduces New QR Licence Mobile App for Motorists

Department of Transport Thailand

The Department of Land Transport (DLT) in Thailand has launched a new mobile application, known as the QR Licence app, to bring more convenience to drivers. With this app, motorists will no longer need to carry a physical driver’s licence, as they can now display their licence digitally on their electronic devices.

Seksom Akraphand, the director-general of the DLT, highlighted the app’s many features. One of the main advantages of the QR Licence app is its ability to store a digital version of a driver’s licence, which can be shown on smartphones or tablets. This digital licence will contain all the necessary personal information, including the driver’s blood type and any drug allergies.

In addition to displaying personal details, the app can notify drivers when their licence is about to expire, helping them stay updated and avoid fines. It also offers a unique feature allowing users to share their travel routes, vehicle registration number, and current location with family or friends. In case of an emergency, the app can send alerts and messages via phone or SMS, making it a helpful tool for both safety and communication.

Apart from these safety features, the app provides drivers with the latest news and updates from the Department of Land Transport. This feature aims to keep motorists informed about any changes in regulations, road conditions, or new services provided by the department.

The QR Licence app is available for both Android and iOS devices. Users can download it from official app stores such as the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. However, only newer types of driver’s licences with a QR code on the back are compatible with this app, according to Mr. Seksom.

This new initiative by the DLT not only simplifies the process for motorists but also enhances road safety by providing critical information at the driver’s fingertips. It marks an important step in embracing digital solutions to improve the daily lives of people in Thailand.
