May 25, 2024: Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested three suspects in connection with the theft of 600 litres of diesel belonging to the Kenya Union of Savings & Credit Cooperatives (KUSCCO) Ltd. The fuel, valued at approximately Sh107,460, was illicitly siphoned from KUSCCO’s reservoir drums into plastic jerrycans for unauthorized disposal.
Acting on an intelligence report, officers from the Operation Support Unit intercepted a Mitsubishi pickup, registration number KBL 054D, at KAA Estate near Wilson Airport. The driver and two KUSCCO employees were apprehended at the scene, and the stolen fuel was recovered.
Following the suspects’ interrogation, detectives identified the two KUSCCO employees as John Kioko, 41, and Michael Kioko. The investigation revealed that the employees were responsible for safeguarding the fuel, which had been drawn from the Mbagathi Way Total Petrol Station for the company’s generators at its Upper Hill offices.
Driven by greed, the Kioko’s allegedly conspired with Gabriel Ngeta, 48, to steal the fuel. However, their plan was thwarted before they could profit from the stolen diesel.
The suspects are currently in police custody as officers from the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) and the Crime Scene Investigations (CSI) unit complete their processing ahead of their arraignment in court.
