Arusha, Tanzania – Dr. William Ruto EGH President of the Republic of Kenya has been elected as the new chairperson of the East African Community (EAC), succeeding South Sudan’s President H.E Salva Kiir.

On Saturday, November 30 was elected following an election among EAC member state presidents during the 24th Ordinary Summit in Arusha, Tanzania.

Ruto’s election comes as he continues to champion regional integration and economic development.

He has been a vocal advocate for strengthening ties between EAC member states, emphasizing the need to promote peace and security, combat transnational crime, and enhance regional value chains.

During the summit, leaders discussed measures to promote peace and security, including strategies to combat transnational crimes in the region. They also marked the EAC’s 25th anniversary and its progress toward political federation.

New EAC Chairperson and President of Kenya Dr. Ruto latest achievement follows his recent visit to Burundi, where he rallied support for Raila Odinga bid for the AUC chairman at the COMESA summit.

He also participated in high-level discussions to strengthen Kenya’s ties with key strategic partners, emphasizing the need to enhance regional value chains to promote COMESA integration.
