Malindi, Kenya – In a major breakthrough against the war on drugs, detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit in Malindi, working together with a multi-agency team stationed at Sabaki Bridge, have arrested a notorious drug trafficker.
The suspect, identified as Salim Peter Katana, was apprehended with 38 packages of heroin valued at approximately Sh14,540,000.
The arrest took place in Ngerenya, Kilifi County, following a tip-off from informants who had alerted the authorities about Salim’s involvement in illegal drug trafficking.
Armed with this intelligence, officers swiftly acted and raided his residence. A thorough search led to the discovery of 38 packages of heroin, weighing 3.635 kilograms.
The drugs were concealed in one of the bedrooms, carefully hidden as if they were buried treasure.
In addition to the heroin, the officers also recovered Sh13,000 in cash, which is suspected to be proceeds from his drug-related activities.
Salim Katana was immediately arrested and is currently being held at Malindi Police Station.
He will soon face charges related to drug trafficking in court. The successful operation highlights the continued efforts by law enforcement agencies to curb the drug menace, especially in coastal regions where drug trafficking has been rampant.
Detectives have vowed to intensify the fight against such criminal activities, with more operations expected in the future.
The arrest marks another win in the ongoing battle to rid the country of illegal drugs and the networks that facilitate their distribution.
