Five Officers in Court over Escape of 13 Remandees from Gigiri Police Station

High Court- Five police officers were arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts today in connection with the escape of 13 remandees from the Gigiri Police Station.

The officers, identified as Ronald Babo, Evans Kipkirui, Mollent Achieng, Zachary Nyabuto, and Gerald Mutuku, were brought before Senior Principal Magistrate Martha Nanzushi.

The escape involved 12 Eritrean nationals and Collins Jumaisi, the prime suspect in a series of murders in Nairobi.

The case has drawn significant attention due to the severity of the charges against Jumaisi, who is accused of being involved in the killings of several individuals whose bodies were discovered in Kware, a low-income residential area of Nairobi.

The five officers are now persons of interest in the ongoing investigation into how the 13 remandees managed to escape from custody.

Incident has raised serious concerns about the security and management of remandees in police custody, particularly in cases involving high-profile suspects like Jumaisi.

The Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Renson Ingonga has vowed to pursue the matter vigorously to ensure that those responsible for the escape are held accountable. The appearance of the officers in court marks the beginning of what is expected to be a closely watched case, as the public and authorities alike seek answers on how such a significant security breach could occur.

As the investigation continues, the court proceedings will determine the level of involvement of the five officers in the escape and whether they will face further legal action.
