In a successful operation, four individuals linked to the recent cash theft from Quickmart were apprehended in various locations across the city. The arrest was carried out by dedicated detectives from DCI HQS, supported by their counterparts in the Nairobi region. The meticulous investigation, driven by forensic analysis, initially led to the apprehension of the first suspect, Ismael Patrick Gitonga, in Rongai.
Gitonga is believed to have played a pivotal role as the driver and accomplice in transporting the stolen cash amounting to Sh94,918,750 from the Wells Fargo truck in South C. The operation traced his involvement using his Toyota Fielder with registration number KBM 751W.
The investigative trail extended to Njiru area in Kayole, where detectives located Michael Matoro Njeru and Samuel Onyango, caught in the act of modifying a vehicle for concealment. Both suspects were promptly arrested, and the vehicle was seized.
Further inquiries led detectives to Roysambu, near Thika Road Mall, where the fourth suspect, Martin Nderi Ng’ang’a, was apprehended. Ng’ang’a cooperated with authorities, leading them to his rented residence in Roysambu. A search of the premises resulted in the recovery of Sh9.1 million in cash.
Subsequent to the suspects’ apprehension, detectives proceeded to a forest near Gataka Market in Karen, where they successfully retrieved the cash box used in transporting the stolen money. It is believed that this forest served as the meeting point for the suspects, where the ill-gotten gains were distributed before each individual attempted to evade law enforcement.
As investigations continue, authorities are determined to unravel the full extent of the operation and bring all involved parties to justice.
