The Inspector General of Police, Japhet Koome, is currently on a tour of the North Rift region to assess the ongoing Operation Maliza Uhalifu, a joint police-military operation aimed at ending cattle rustling and banditry in the area.

On Wednesday, IG Koome visited National Police Service officers in Tot, Baringo County, the latest stop on his fact-finding mission that began on Tuesday. He commended the officers for their commitment, patriotism, and selfless service in challenging circumstances.

During his tour, the police chief has taken a hardline stance, equating banditry to terrorism and vowing that it will be met with an unparalleled operational response. “Banditry will be confronted with an operation like we’ve never seen before,” Koome stated Tuesday in Kabarnet.

The IG’s visit comes just a month after the National Police Service deployed new mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicles to support the Formed Police Units operating in the region’s volatile areas.

In addition to Tot and Kabarnet, Koome’s tour has included stops in Nanighi, Meru, Turkana, and other parts of Baringo County as he oversees security operations to rid the North Rift of the persistent threat of cattle rustling and banditry.
