Inspector general of police say 1 person died, 213 were arrested, 24 police injured, 20 police vehicles damaged
In the wake of yesterday protests, the Inspector General of Police has announced that 213 individuals have been arrested for their involvement in the unrest. Azimio la Umoja Party that lost 2023 General election led The protests to push government to lower the cost of food.
According to the Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome, the arrested individuals will be charged with various offenses related to vandalizing people’s properties, robbery with violence and causing chaos. The police have also recovered several weapons from some of the arrested individuals, which suggests that there may have been an element of violence involved in the protests.
The police response to the protests has not been without incident, however. In the course of their duties, 10 police vehicles were damaged, 24 police officers sustained injuries, some of which were severe and 1 civilian died. The Inspector General Koome has expressed his sympathies to the injured officers and has promised to provide them with the necessary medical attention.
The situation still remains tense as Azimio leader say they’ll be protesting every week Monday.
Furthermore, Azimio leaders and supporters continue to demand that their voices be heard, the Government side say the price of food has lowered compared to last year and early 2023 and also it will soon drop to pocket friendly.
