In Makueni County, where all these started and was achieved in the fight against illegal wildlife trafficking as law enforcement officers, aided by tips from vigilant members of the public, successfully recovered ivory tusks valued at Ksh. 2 million.
On the 12th of March, 2024, a collaborative effort involving officers from various agencies, including the National Police Service (Makindu Police Station, DCI Makindu) and Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), culminated in the arrest of four individuals in Makindu Location, within Makindu Sub-county.
The apprehended suspects have been identified as Stephen Kitavi (34 years old), Peter Kioko (39 years old), Shadrack Kyalo Muange (47 years old), and Danstan Kisyoka (54 years old).
They were found to be in possession of six pieces of ivory tusks, collectively weighing 6.8 kilograms.
These tusks, with an estimated street value of Ksh. 2 million, represent a significant seizure in the ongoing battle against wildlife crime.
According to Police unit, the suspects are being held in custody at the Makindu Police Station, pending their arraignment in court on today March 13, 2024. Safeguarding Kenya’s rich biodiversity and combating wildlife trafficking at all cost.
