KCA University — In a boost to higher education support, Kakamega Governor Hon. Ferdinand Barasa has donated KES 500,000 to the KCA University Scholarship Fund.
The generous contribution aims to provide financial assistance to deserving students from Kakamega County, enabling them to pursue their academic ambitions at the prestigious institution.

During a ceremony held at the KCA University campus, Governor Barasa emphasised the importance of education in fostering socio-economic development and reducing poverty. He highlighted the need for collective efforts to ensure that talented young individuals from less privileged backgrounds have access to quality education.

“Education is the cornerstone of development, and it is our duty to ensure that our youth have the opportunity to realise their full potential. By supporting the KCA University Scholarship Fund, we are investing in the future leaders of Kakamega and Kenya at large,” said Governor Barasa.

The governor’s contribution is expected to cover tuition fees, accommodation, and other essential expenses for several students, easing the financial burden on their families. This initiative aligns with the broader objectives of the county government to enhance educational opportunities and improve the overall welfare of its residents.

In his address, KCA University’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Isaiah I.C. Wakindiki, expressed gratitude for the governor’s support. He noted that the scholarship fund is a crucial element in the university’s mission to provide inclusive education. “We are deeply grateful to Governor Barasa for his unwavering commitment to education. His donation will have a profound impact on the lives of our students, enabling them to focus on their studies without financial worries,” Prof. Isaiah remarked.

The KCA University Scholarship Fund was established to assist students who demonstrate academic excellence but face financial challenges. Over the years, it has enabled many students to achieve their educational goals, contributing to the development of skilled professionals who positively impact various sectors of the economy.

Governor Barasa’s donation comes at a time when the demand for higher education in Kenya is on the rise, yet many capable students are hindered by financial constraints. By supporting such initiatives, the governor continues to demonstrate his dedication to the empowerment of the youth and the overall progress of Kakamega County.

The event was attended by various dignitaries, including county officials, university staff, and students, who all lauded the governor’s philanthropic gesture.
Many students expressed their appreciation, noting that the scholarship fund has opened doors to opportunities they never thought possible.

As the ceremony concluded, there was a sense of optimism and hope among the attendees, with many looking forward to the positive changes this contribution will bring to the lives of the beneficiaries and their communities.
