In a unique protest, residents of Kapsoit-Sondu road B135, which connects four counties at Sondu Market – Kericho County, Kisumu County, Nyamira County, and Kisii County – have decided to plant bananas in the middle of the road. The protest is aimed at drawing the attention of Cabinet Secretary of Roads and Transport, Mr. Kipchumba Murkomen, to the deplorable state of the road which has become completely impassable.
The residents of the area have been grappling with the sorry state of the road for a long time, and despite their pleas to the authorities concerned, no action has been taken. The situation has severely affected the livelihoods of the people, especially farmers who use the road to transport their produce to the market.
The decision to plant bananas in the middle of the road is symbolic, as it is meant to show that the road is currently a farm. The protest has gained widespread attention, and the residents hope that it will lead to action from the government to fix the road and make it passable.
The residents are calling on Cs Mr. Murkomen to visit the road and see for himself the situation on the ground. They are also urging him to allocate funds for the repair of the road so that they can resume their daily activities without any hindrance.
