Kenya has introduced the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system, ETA Kenya, effective January 1, 2024, replacing the existing online entry visa platform. President William Ruto’s vision for a visa-free country takes a step forward with this move, requiring travelers to pay 30 euros for a three-month stay, reduced from the previous $51. The initiative aims to simplify travel procedures and boost tourism.
Under the ETA system, all foreign nationals, excluding East African country members, must obtain ETA before entering Kenya. The government stresses the exclusive use of the official website for applications, rejecting third-party platforms to ensure security. Applicants under 18 require guidance from a legal guardian or parent, emphasizing data accuracy during the application.
Application Process Guidelines
To apply for ETA, individuals can visit ETA Kenya’s official website, click “Apply Now,” and follow instructions. After submission, applicants receive a confirmation email, and approval/rejection notifications follow based on the immigration officer’s decision. Approved applicants should print, download, or save the attached PDF for presentation during arrival and departure in Kenya.
