In recent news, the Meru County Government has issued a stern warning to all Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs in the region to desist from allowing the sale of illicit brew in their areas of jurisdiction. The warning comes after reports emerged that some local leaders were colluding with illegal brewers to allow the sale of the banned substance.
According to the County Commissioner, all Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs found to be involved in the sale of illicit brew will face severe disciplinary action, including immediate suspension from their duties. The commissioner also urged residents to report any cases of illicit brew to the relevant authorities for action to be taken.
In a related development, the Murang’a police department has been put on notice after reports emerged that some of its officers have been caught on several occasions drinking alcohol while on duty. The Inspector-General of Police has warned all officers in the region to desist from such behavior, adding that any officer found to be taking alcohol while on duty will face disciplinary action.
The warning comes at a time when the police department is under scrutiny over its conduct, with reports of corruption and abuse of power becoming increasingly common. The Inspector-General of police Japhet Koome has assured the public that the police department is committed to upholding the law and will not hesitate to take action against any officer found to be engaging in unlawful behavior.
Residents in both regions have welcomed the move, with many calling on the authorities to take action to end the sale of illicit brew and ensure that police officers uphold the law at all times.
