Millicent Omanga Criticizes SRC Salary Increases Amid Nationwide Cost of Living Protests

Former Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Millicent Omanga has publicly criticized the Salary and Remuneration Commission (SRC) for increasing the salaries of government officials amidst ongoing demonstrations in Kenya.

These protests are driven by widespread frustration over the rising cost of living in the country.

“It’s a betrayal to Kenyans for salaries & other benefits of state officers to be increased at this point in time when there’s agitation for the same to be reduced. We can’t always take Kenyans for fools. Reduce, not increase. That’s what Kenyans are demanding,” Omanga stated.

For weeks, youths across the country have been holding demonstrations, demanding elected leaders reduce excessive and unappreciated expenditure.
They argue that such financial mismanagement has significantly contributed to the increased cost of living and forced Kenya to secure loans from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank, which come with higher interest rates.

The ruling party, Kenya Kwanza, has been accused of maintaining an opulent lifestyle and making substantial donations to religious institutions, despite the economic hardships faced by ordinary Kenyans.
This disparity has intensified public outrage and fueled the ongoing protests.
