Mithika Linturi Impeached as Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture Over Fake Fertilizers Scam

02 May 2024 National Assembly, 149 Members of Parliament voted in favor of impeaching Mithika Linturi from his position as the Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture.

The impeachment stems from his alleged involvement in the Fake Fertilizers scam, which has garnered widespread attention and concern. Only 36 MPs opposed the motion, highlighting the substantial support for Linturi’s removal.

Following the impeachment vote, an 11-member Committee will be appointed to conduct a thorough investigation into the claims made against Mithika Linturi.
This committee will diligently examine the evidence and determine the veracity of the allegations. It is worth noting that if the Committee returns a “not-guilty” verdict, there remains a chance for the Cabinet Secretary to retain his position.

The motion to impeach Mithika Linturi was spearheaded by Wanami Wamboka, a first-time Member of Parliament representing the Bumula Constituency.

Wamboka’s vocal advocacy for accountability and transparency in this case has brought the issue to the forefront of national discourse.

The outcome of the investigation and subsequent proceedings will be closely monitored, as it has far-reaching implications for the agricultural sector and the fight against corruption in the country.
