Nakuru MP Samuel Arama Faces Backlash for Insulting Parents in Bursary Queue “Stupid & Jobless People”

Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama faced criticism after a video surfaced on social media depicting him berating parents queuing for bursary forms at his office. The video, dated Friday, 02/02/2024, captured the lawmaker expressing astonishment at the long line extending from the office gate.

Despite the scheduled bursary exercise lasting until the end of February, Arama questioned the rationale behind residents standing in line for extended periods. He went on to label the parents as “stupid” and “jobless” for their decision to queue early.

Expressing his frustration, Arama suggested that the county should adopt a more convenient approach by uploading the bursary forms on Government website for Parents and Guardians to access online. However, his proposed solution came with a controversial condition – a fee of Ksh20 per form, which he claimed was necessary because the parents were, in his words, “becoming stupid.”

The situation escalated as Arama proceeded to dismiss onlookers who had not joined the queues, including individuals with disabilities. He signaled his bodyguard to disperse the crowd, further intensifying the backlash against the MP for his perceived lack of empathy and derogatory remarks towards the struggling parents seeking educational support for their children.
