In line with Section 30(6) of the Traffic Act, the National Transport & Safety Authority (NTSA) has initiated the periodic retesting of drivers. The purpose of this retesting is to ensure that commercial and public service vehicle drivers meet the necessary requirements for the renewal of driving licenses with specific class endorsements. The NTSA would like to provide the public with important information regarding this process:
- The retesting requirement applies to drivers of public service vehicles and commercial vehicles with the following class endorsements: B3, D1, D2, D3, C, C1, CE, and CD.
- Drivers with the aforementioned class endorsements must undergo retesting every three years upon the expiration of their driving licenses.
- The retests will be conducted at all NTSA Driver Test Units located across the country.
- To streamline the retest application process and ensure transparency, all driver retest applications have been simplified. Drivers can submit their retest applications through their personal accounts, which can be accessed using their E-Citizen login credentials.
- The retest fee amounts to Shs. 1,050 and should be processed through the E-Citizen Platform. A system invoice will be generated for payment. It is important to note that the NTSA does not accept cash payments.
- The retest process consists of a written theory examination and oral submissions.
- The questions for the retest are based on the content provided in the Curriculum for driver training and testing.
- The results of the retest will be uploaded and verified within 24 hours through the driver’s personal account.
- In the event that a driver fails the retest, they will have the opportunity to retake the examination.
- Drivers who wish to enhance their knowledge and skills before taking the retest, or those who fail the exam, may choose to undergo refresher training at a driving school of their choice.

The NTSA remains committed to enhancing road safety standards and ensuring that drivers meet the necessary qualifications to operate public service and commercial vehicles. Regular retesting will contribute to maintaining a skilled and competent pool of drivers on the nation’s roads, promoting safer transportation for all.
