NTSA has kick off a road safety awareness campaign, themed FATAL SIX

The National Transportation and Safety Authority ( NTSA ) Kenya with European Union Delegates have been campaigning for safety for road users.

In a recent statement by NTSA, NTSA and EU has started a campaign by the theme Fatal Six, the campaign is meant to highlight risky behaviors and equip road users with information and knowledge on how to prevent fatal crashes and injuries.

Fika Salama, Know the Fatal Six

As part of the Usalama Barabarani Campaign, this Pasaka and the weeks leading to school reopening we want our drivers/riders to take just five seconds and reflect before starting the engine and ask themselves if they’re fond of engaging in these risky behaviors that are likely to lead to a fatal crash.

The Fatal Six:

1. Speeding

2. Lane indiscipline

3. Drink driving

4. Distracted driving

5. Failure to wear a helmet

6. Failure to use available pedestrian walkway

Road users who engage in one of these behaviors are far more likely to be involved in a fatal crash than those who do not.

In a study contacted by Institute for Transportation & Development Policy (ITDP) indicates that 43% of crashes involving a pedestrian happen within 500 meters of a pedestrian bridge.

Pedestrian bridges are demonstrably not safe.

The bridges or popularity known as footbridge give cars a sense of exclusive access to the road, drivers are less likely to be aware of, or look for pedestrians when near a footbridge.

Overspeeding, carelessly changing lanes, drunk and distracted drivers are 90% likely to cause accident(s) , NTSA plea to everyone to take responsibility on the road.
