Nyeri Senator Sworn In as Parliamentary Service Commissioner

Nyeri Senator, Hon. Wahome Wamatinga, has officially taken the oath of office as a Commissioner for the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC).

The ceremony, held at the PSC headquarters in County Hall, was overseen by National Assembly Speaker and PSC Chairperson, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Moses Wetang’ula.

Hon. Wamatinga replaces Laikipia Senator, Hon. John Kinyua, who recently resigned from the position. Speaking during the event, Hon. Wetang’ula praised Hon. Wamatinga for his dedication and integrity.

“I have known Senator Wamatinga as a steadfast politician who avoids toxic politics. I am confident he will add tremendous value to the Commission,” said Dr. Wetang’ula.

The Speaker emphasized the importance of the oath of office, urging Hon. Wamatinga to remain faithful to the Constitution and the principles of confidentiality and loyalty.

The PSC, tasked with ensuring the welfare of parliamentarians and parliamentary staff, welcomed Hon. Wamatinga into its ranks. Hon. Wetang’ula called on him to integrate quickly and contribute to strengthening relationships between Parliament, the Executive, and the Judiciary.

“We want you to settle in quickly and help the Commission fulfill its mandate,” Dr. Wetang’ula stated, highlighting the collaborative nature of the Commission’s work.

Hon. Wetang’ula further noted that the new role would provide Hon. Wamatinga with additional opportunities to serve the people of Nyeri County more effectively.

Several PSC Commissioners, including Hon. Mohammed Ali, Hon. Mishi Mboko, and Hon. Patrick Makau, extended their congratulations and pledged support to Hon. Wamatinga.

In his acceptance speech, Hon. Wamatinga expressed gratitude for the opportunity and assured his colleagues of his commitment.

“This is an exciting moment for me, and I thank the Senate for approving my appointment to the PSC. I am ready to learn and work collaboratively with all of you,” he said.

Hon. Wamatinga acknowledged the support he received and expressed optimism about contributing to the Commission’s goals.

The ceremony was attended by key officials, including National Assembly Clerk Mr. Samuel Njoroge, Senate Deputy Clerk Mohammed Ali, and Director of the Speaker’s Office, Mr. Steve Apopo.

The swearing-in marks a significant step for Hon. Wamatinga as he begins his journey as a PSC Commissioner, with high expectations for his contributions to parliamentary leadership and governance.
