Penalties of owning firearm(s) illegally in Kenya
The penalties for owning firearms that are illegal or not properly licensed can be quite severe.
According to the Kenya Firearms Act, it is illegal to possess any firearm or ammunition without a valid license.
Unlawful possession of a firearm can result in imprisonment for a term not exceeding seven years, or a fine not exceeding one hundred thousand shillings, or both.
If the unlawful possession of a firearm is committed by a person who has previously been convicted of a firearm offense, the penalty can be even more severe, with a minimum sentence of ten years’ imprisonment.
However, if the unlawful possession of a firearm is committed in connection with organized crime or terrorism, the penalties can be even more severe, including life imprisonment.
It is important to note that the specific penalties for unlawful possession of a firearm can vary depending on the circumstances of the case, including the type of firearm involved, the intent of the person possessing the firearm, and any prior criminal history.
Therefore, if you are considering owning a firearm in Kenya, it is essential that you ensure that you have a valid license and that you comply with all relevant laws and regulations.
If you are unsure about the legality of a particular firearm or the requirements for obtaining a license, it is recommended that you consult with a qualified legal professional.
