Police Seize 12 Sacks of Marijuana Concealed in Hearse Enroute to Kisumu

A consignment of 12 sacks of marijuana was intercepted by police last night at a roadblock in Suo, Busia County. The drugs were being transported in a hearse, which is ordinarily used to transport the dead to the grave.

The driver of the hearse, Hussein Otita, was arrested and the vehicle, registration number KCV 402Y, was impounded.

Police said they had flagged down the hearse for a routine check at around 7pm. The vehicle was heavily tinted and its stereo was playing sombre tunes associated with escorting the departed.

As the driver lowered his window, a policeman detected a smell from inside the vehicle that was not related to human remains. A search of the vehicle revealed the 12 sacks of cannabis sativa.

Otita was arrested and taken to Suo Police Station, where he is being held pending further investigations.

Police are appealing to members of the public to report any suspicious activity to the authorities. They say that drug trafficking is a serious crime that can have a devastating impact on communities.
