President Ruto Announces Ambitious Plan to Transform Kibera Slums into Affordable Housing In Within 10 Years

Latest in Kenya, President Ruto has unveiled a comprehensive plan to overhaul the Kibera slums in Lang’ata Constituency, aiming to provide residents with improved living standards through affordable housing. This initiative marks a significant step towards addressing housing challenges in the country.

President Ruto, in his first year in Office, fulfilled a campaign promise by introducing the Housing Funds Tax (Housing Levy). This tax is earmarked to finance the construction of affordable housing units in every county, with Kibera’s Soweto slums being a prominent focus of this endeavor.

The President’s collaboration with the County Government of Nairobi has culminated in the launch of an ambitious project to revitalize Kibera, which is currently the largest slum in Africa. The plan envisions replacing the existing slum dwellings with modern, affordable housing units, promising a better future for Kibera’s residents.

However, the scale of this endeavor cannot be underestimated, as it is expected to take approximately 10 years to complete. Nonetheless, this transformative project holds the potential to uplift the lives of thousands living in Kibera and serves as a testament to the government’s commitment to providing affordable housing solutions across the nation.
