May 30, 2024 — President William Ruto, speaking at the National Prayer Breakfast held at Safari Park, says government to relocate people affected by floods, efforts to ensure the safety of Kenyans amidst anticipated above-normal rainfall.
The President revealed that the government has allocated close to 300 million shillings to provide alternative housing for those affected by the recent heavy rains.
“We have spent close to 300 million shillings to make sure that these people who have been reloading have alternative places to stay,” President Ruto stated. He further mentioned that an additional 13,000 people are currently being processed for relocation to safer areas.
The move comes as meteorological forecasts predict unusually heavy rainfall across Kenya, posing a significant threat to vulnerable communities.
President say the government is commitment to preventing loss of life due to natural disasters.
“We have been told that rain will be above normal range in Kenya. So we have to be careful so that we don’t again put Kenyans in danger,” he said.
He assured that the government is taking proactive measures, including building ecosystems across various regions to mitigate the risks associated with extreme weather.
