Professor Abraham Kithure Kindiki has officially been sworn in as Kenya Deputy President on November 1, 2024.
The ceremony took place at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), following weeks of legal delays.
Impeached former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua had challenged his replacement in court, temporarily halting Kindiki’s swearing-in. However, a three-judge panel recently lifted these orders, paving the way for the ceremony.
At the ceremony, Kindiki, who previously served as the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration docket, took his oath in front of key government officials, expressing his commitment to serve Kenya diligently and support President William Ruto in his vision for the country.
The event marked a significant leadership transition, as Kithure Kindiki now steps into the role with the mandate to uphold national security and administrative policies, leveraging his extensive background in law and governance.
Supporters at the event showed great enthusiasm, especially as Kindiki pledged unwavering dedication to his new responsibilities. His prior experience in public service, including his recent role in the Ministry of Interior, is seen as advantageous for Kenya’s leadership as he begins his term.
