In a troubling incident that has sparked widespread concern, two high school students were apprehended with a significant amount of cannabis.
The students, one aged 17 in Form 4 and the other aged 16 in Form 3, were caught with the illicit substance while travelling on a Guardian Angel bus, registration number KCW 073X, from Busia to Nairobi.
The operation was the result of a tip-off received by a vigilant multi-agency team stationed at the Suo roadblock. Acting swiftly on the information, the team intercepted the bus and conducted a meticulous search.
During the search, five bales of cannabis weighing a total of 23 kilograms were discovered, cleverly concealed in the students’ bags. The street value of the seized cannabis is estimated at Sh690,000.
The young suspects were promptly taken into custody and escorted to Busia police station, where they are currently being processed for their day in court.
The incident highlights the growing concern over the involvement of young people in drug trafficking activities and raises questions about the measures in place to protect and educate students about the dangers of drugs.
Police have expressed shock and concern over this development.
They are calling for increased vigilance and collaboration between schools, parents, and law enforcement agencies to prevent such incidents in the future.
The use of students in drug trafficking not only puts their futures at risk but also endangers the broader community.
As the investigation continues, the public is urged to report any suspicious activities to the authorities to help combat the growing menace of drug trafficking in the country.
