The Public Service Commission (PSC) has has shortlisted six candidates for the position of Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) Governor. The current Governor, Patrick Njoroge’s term is set to expire in June.
The six candidates selected for the position are Dorcas Mutonyi, Haron Sirima, Edward Sambili, Nancy Onyango, Adan Mohamed and Kamau Thugge. The candidates were selected from a pool of applicants who applied for the position.
Dorcas Mutonyi who previously served in various senior positions in the banking sector. Haron Sirima is the CEO of the Deposit Protection Fund, while Edward Sambili is the CEO of the Retirement Benefits Authority.
Nancy Onyango is a former Director of Research and Policy at CBK, and Adan Mohamed is a former Cabinet Secretary for Industry, Trade and Cooperatives. Kamau Thugge is a former Principal Secretary in the National Treasury.
The PSC stated that the six candidates were shortlisted after a rigorous selection process that involved a review of their academic and professional qualifications, as well as their experience in the banking sector.
The successful candidate will be tasked with steering Kenya’s economy through the current challenging times, which have been exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic. The new CBK Governor will also be expected to maintain the stability of the Kenyan shilling, while also ensuring that inflation remains within the target range.
The PSC will start conduct interviews with the six candidates before making a final decision on who will be appointed as the new CBK Governor.
