The launch of the Taifa-1 satellite, which was scheduled to take place today at Vandenberg Base, California, USA aboard Falcon-9 Rocket owned by Space Exploration Technologies Corporation (SpaceX) has been postponed due to unfavorable atmospheric conditions in the upper atmosphere, Kenya Space Agency said.
The launch was originally scheduled for today, but due to unfavorable weather conditions, the SpaceX has decided to postpone the launch until Thursday 9:47am Pacific Time “Friday, April 14th, 2023, at 9:44am East Africa Time (EAT)”.
In a statement released by the SpaceX, they apologized for any inconvenience caused by the postponement and stated that the safety of the satellite is their top priority. They also expressed their gratitude for the patience and understanding of all those involved in the launch.
The Taifa-1 satellite is a major achievement for Kenya as it marks the country’s first-ever satellite launch. It is expected to be used for weather monitoring, disaster management, and remote sensing. The satellite is also expected to boost Kenya’s position as a leader in space technology in Africa.
