The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has reported a successful operation resulting in the neutralization of a four-man gang responsible for a series of violent robberies in Nakuru North Sub-County.
The operation, conducted by a team comprising officers from DCI HQS, DCI Nakuru North, and OCS Lanet, led to the recovery of a LIAI rifle and other incriminating exhibits.
The operation was prompted by a spate of violent robberies within Nakuru North Sub-County, where the perpetrators consistently used a rifle in their criminal activities.
Acting on intelligence that the armed gang was sighted at Nakuru’s Umoja Estate, the team swiftly moved to conduct a sting operation in the area.
Upon locating the gang, the officers confronted them and demanded their surrender. However, the gang members responded by opening fire on the officers, leading to a fatal shootout. In self-defense, the officers retaliated, resulting in the fatal injury of two gang members.
The remaining two members managed to escape with suspected gunshot wounds, and efforts to pursue them are currently underway.
Recovered Exhibits and Crime Scene Processing
From the scene of the shootout, the officers recovered a LIAI rifle loaded with four rounds of ammunition, a panga, dagger, hammer, a pair of pliers, balaclavas, and spent cartridges.
The Crime Scene Investigators have processed the scene, and the bodies of the deceased gang members have been moved to Nakuru Annex Morgue pending identification.
The DCI has commended the swift and decisive actions of the officers involved in the operation, emphasizing their commitment to maintaining law and order in the region.
