Tragic Shakahola Incident: 609 Missing and 179 Bodies Exhumed So Far

Coast Regional Commissioner Rhoda Onyancha has announced that the number of missing people in the Shakahola incident has risen to 609. She also revealed that 29 more bodies have been exhumed today Friday 12, 2023, bringing the total number of bodies recovered to 179.

The exhumation is part of ongoing efforts by the government to recover all the alleged victims of the cult pastor Paul Mackenzie. Mackenzie, who is currently in police custody, is the leader of the New Life Church and has been accused of instructing his congregation to starve to death to meet Jesus Christ in heaven.

The exhumation will continue until all the bodies are recovered, according to the regional commissioner. She called on the families of the missing persons to come forward and assist the authorities in identifying the recovered bodies.

The Shakahola incident has shocked the nation and raised concerns about the proliferation of cults and their impact on vulnerable members of society. The government has pledged to take action to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The public has been urged to report any suspicious activities by cults and their leaders to the authorities. The police have also been directed to investigate all such reports and take appropriate action to protect the public from harm.
