The suspects, Jennifer Njeri, 46, and William Mwangi, 26, were arrested at Busman Investments Ltd, a company dealing in scrap metals.

They were found in possession of assorted materials belonging to the Kenya Power & Lighting Company (KPLC), including three phase service line drop cables, fuses, transformer switches, and aluminum conductors.

The materials are believed to have been vandalized from KPLC installations. The suspects are currently in custody at Kitengela police station and are set to be arraigned in court on Monday August 28, 2023.

The arrest is part of an ongoing operation by KPLC and the police to crack down on vandalism of electricity infrastructure. Vandalism of electricity infrastructure is a serious crime that can lead to power outages, injuries, and even death.

The company is also urging members of the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the relevant authorities.

Vandalism of electricity infrastructure is a crime against the community and it is important that we all work together to protect our electricity supply, KPLC MD said

In a related news, Kenya Power has also announced that it is increasing the penalties for vandalism of electricity infrastructure. The new penalties include a fine of up to Ksh5 million or a jail term of up to 10 years, or both.
