Verify Details Before M-Pesa Transfer, Safaricom Tells Subscribers

Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa

As of a statement dated March 26, 2024, Safaricom, the mobile service provider, has advised all of their subscribers on what steps to take before transferring money across their platform, M-PESA.

Safaricom PLC has advised all users to confirm that they have input the correct mobile number, Till or Pay bill before transferring payments from one M-PESA account to another, in an internal attempt to prevent consumers from sending money to the wrong recipient.

Safaricom continued by saying that their official My Safaricom app and M-Pesa app have a strategic edge when it comes to phone book access; users don’t need to enter the phone number of the intended recipient of a transaction. This gives a safe option for sending money to the right person.

In addition, Safaricom has advised their subscribers to avoid giving out their M-Pesa PIN in the streets, markets, or public places, as it poses a risk to their accounts.

“Stay Alert! Never give your phone or disclose your PINs to anyone, including people engaging in any form of sales activity in the streets, markets, or public places,” Safaricom said.
