Vihiga County Officials Arrested Over KES 17 Million Fraud Case

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested 11 officials from the Vihiga County Government.

Among those detained are Dr. Arnold Kimiyia Mamadi, the Chief Officer for Medical Services, and Godfrey Oyaro, the Director of Procurement.
According to EACC, the suspects are set to be charged this morning at 9:00 am before the Kakamega Anti-Corruption Court.

The detained officials are accused of embezzling KES 17 million through fraudulent payments for non-existent construction work on a Blood Transfusion Centre in Vihiga.
The centre was intended to assist patients in need of blood transfusions, but the project allegedly existed only on paper.

The suspects spent the night in custody at the Kisumu Port Police Station and are currently being escorted from Kisumu to the Kakamega Law Courts to face charges.

The EACC has also issued an order for the 12th suspect, Eugene Wandera Wamalwa, the Principal Quantity Surveyor for Vihiga County, who is currently at large.
The commission has directed him to report to the EACC Regional Office in Kisumu immediately.
