Kaptagat Forest, located in Elgeyo Marakwet County, witnessed a significant environmental initiative led by President Ruto, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and a host of government officials. The President, along with other deligates, donned green attire to symbolize their commitment to environmental conservation as they planted trees in the area.
The tree planting initiative aimed to address the challenges facing the Kaptagat Forest Ecosystem, which plays a crucial role as a catchment area supporting numerous livelihoods in Elgeyo Marakwet, Trans-Nzoia, and Uasin Gishu Counties. Apart from providing water for irrigation and domestic use, the forest also offers an ideal training environment for the region’s thriving sportsmen and women.
During the event, President Ruto emphasized the importance of working together with partners to rehabilitate and restore this vital ecosystem. The collaborative effort involving government agencies such as the Kenya Forest Service (KFS), Members of County Assembly (MCAs), and Students highlighted the shared commitment to safeguarding the environment for current and future generations.
In addition to the tree planting initiative, President Ruto also launched the Yokot Kapteren Integrated Dam, a significant development that will enhance water management in the region. The dam’s construction aims to address water scarcity challenges, ensuring a more reliable supply for irrigation and domestic use.
Furthermore, the President launched a new tuition block at St. Alphonsus Mutei Girls’ High School, affirming the government’s dedication to improving educational facilities. The newly constructed block will provide a conducive learning environment for students and contribute to the overall growth of the education sector in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
