Tharaka-Nithi, Kenya – Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho has declared his unwavering support for President William Ruto’s government, stating that he is ready to “sink” with the president if necessary.
Joho, a former governor of Mombasa and a prominent figure in the opposition, joined Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration in July, a move that surprised many. He has faced criticism from some quarters for aligning himself with the ruling party.
Speaking at the launch of the State Department for Blue Economy and Fisheries Aquaculture Research and Training Centre in Tharaka Nithi on November 29, Joho asserted that unity is paramount and that he is committed to working with Ruto to bring development to the country.
He acknowledged the challenges of joining the government from the opposition, particularly after being a vocal critic of Ruto. However, he emphasized that now is the time to focus on building Kenya, not on criticism.
Joho appointment to the cabinet is seen as part of a broader political strategy by Ruto to secure support from the Coast region, a stronghold of the opposition.
